A Swedish human rights organization was provided with free legal advice regarding refugees.

The Swedish Nyby Vision organization, which is providing legal advice to refugees, has applied to AM law firm asking for information about the measures taken by the Armenian Government over the past year for improving the foster care institution in Armenia. In this way the organization aims to provide the Swedish Migration Service with reliable information on whether it is possible or not to place the children of an Armenian refugee family in foster families in case they are sent back to Armenia.

After researching the relevant regulations and the measures taken by the RA Government in this sphere, the lawyers of AM found out that in 2017 a number of positive changes have been recorded for the improvement of foster care in Armenia.    Particularly, in January 2018 the amendments to the RA Family Code have been entered into force, which provide more thorough regulation of the foster family institution (especially the fact that the placement of a child in a foster family does not deprive the child's biological parents' from their rights). The Government has also drafted a decree regulating the registration and qualification of persons wishing to become a foster parent, as well as the organization of child’s care and upbringing in a foster family, etc.
Additionally, our firm also provided more detailed information about the Armenian system of social protection of children without parental care.

The organization thanked AM law firm for a detailed pro bono consultation.
